Ideally, the engine of a
new-generation sedan should offer the highest possible fuel
efficiency, as well as generous power that is instantly
available upon demand. In the all-new City, Honda achieved
both of these objectives by concentrating on performance
that truly benefits the driver. The City's innovative
1.3-liter, 4 cylinder i-DSI (Intelligent Dual and Sequential
Ignition) engine features sophisticated technology
unavailable in ordinary sedans. Honda i-DSI, for example,
employs two spark plugs per cylinder and varies ignition
timing according to driving conditions to realize remarkably
high combustion efficiency.
This raises fuel efficiency dramatically higher than the
previous City, achieving the world's top-level fuel economy
among 1.3-liter gasoline engine vehicles. It also delivers
more abundant torque in the low-to-mid rpm range, to greatly
benefit performance at the most commonly driven speed, much
smoother and more efficient.
Its remarkably compact and
lightweight design also contributes to exceptional fuel
economy matching that of manual transmissions.
Power is transmitted from the engine to the wheels in a
smooth, step less manner via Honda's newly developed CVT
(Continuously Variable Transmission). This belt-driven
transmission, with its infinite ratios, provides
acceleration that feels linear to the driver's demand, as
well as effective engine braking for linear deceleration. By
eliminating the lull, lurch and wasted energy conventional
gear shifting, Honda CVT makes driving economical.
Complementing Honda CVT is Honda SteerMatic with a
7-speed mode that lets you shift belt ratios with
ease right from the steering wheel. This manual
shifting control allows you to tailor the City's
response to changing road conditions and your own
style of driving. It gives you the best of both
automatic and manual transmissions, with none of the
shock and all of the driving pleasure and economy of
a conventional manual transmission.
