22 June 2005, Makati City. Honda Cars Philippines, Inc announces the new addition to its model line-up. Taking cue from numerous inquiries from the media and the buying public, Honda adds more muscle to the fun Jazz with the introduction today of the Jazz VTEC. Introduced last year, the Honda Jazz led the car industry in developing a new niche in the Philippines: the hatchback market. In the first half of 2005, Honda Jazz continues to lead the expansion of the hatchback market with over 900 units sold. It has set the standard in its class with its efficient engine, Euro-sleek styling and intelligent interior flexibility.
Honda has revamped the Jazz lineup with the introduction of a more powerful variant, the 1.5-liter VTEC. This new addition answers the market’s clamor for stronger engine performance from the Jazz. Fine-tuning on a sportier look, the 1.5-liter Jazz dons 15” alloy wheels, a high mount stop lamp and rear center-mounted sports roof antenna. Moreover, the 1.5-liter Jazz is distinguished by a sleeker and sportier color keyed side protector mouldings and wrap-around skirts.
The 2005 Jazz comes in two engine blocks. At the heart of the Jazz 1.3-liter is the i-DSI (Intelligent Dual and Sequential Ignition), an installation of Honda’s cutting edge i-series engines. The compact and lightweight i-DSI engine provides maximum torque at 2,800 rpm for city driving that other sedans in its class could not equal. With the employment of the ingenious dual spark plug system (2 spark plugs and 2 valves per cylinder) with individually controlled ignition timing, the i-DSI engine offers more rapid and complete combustion, achieving best fuel-efficiency in its class.
Customers now have the choice of power aside from economy with the new 1.5-liter engine having the latest version of Honda’s brainchild VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control System) engine technology. This new engine is capable of a maximum power of 110 ps @ 5,800 rpm and a maximum torque output of 14.5 kg m @ 4,800 rpm. Mated with the Honda Steermatic and a 7-speed mode commanded by a fingertip from the steering wheel, the Jazz combines the best of automatic and manual transmission in a single system for a seamless, shift-shock-free driving pleasure. Further enhancing the feeling of being in control is the highly advanced and efficient electric power steering (EPS), which provides optimized steering assistance depending on vehicle speed, contributes to the Jazz economy by using less power.
The Jazz has amazing utility with all the comforts, functionality and space that no other car in its class could match. Flexible seat arrangements can be made in all Jazz variants with Honda’s ingenious U.L.T Seat (Utility, Long and Tall seat modes) that allow for maximum space and functionality depending on the needs of the customers. The U.L.T. Seats create exceptional versatility in seating and cargo loading, allowing maximum storage size of 1.8 meters in width and 2.0 (Utility mode) to 2.6 meters (Long Mode) in length and 1.2 meters (Tall mode) in height. The luggage area is low and flat for easy storage, the 382-liter trunk capacity makes the Jazz a truly revolution in spaciousness.
The new Jazz is incorporated with Honda’s original G-CON (G-Force Control) technology to create a crash safety design that is among the best in the world. Its crash safety performance is tested to meet even the world’s most stringent standards. Neck-shock mitigation seats in front are equipped with three-point seat belts. Three additional three-point seatbelts are provided for the passengers at the back.
The 2005 Jazz line-up complies with the stringent EURO4 emission standards, making it an environmentally friendly vehicle.
Dual Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution System (EDB) are available in the 1.5 variants only.
